Journal of Italy - Vernazza

Vernazza - May 25, 2006

Carol and I took the local train from Riomaggiore to Vernazza. Although Carol had hiked the trails of all these towns, she hadn't actually been into the towns, so we were both eager to explore. I was overjoyed to be feeling human again The little local railway shuttle made it all easy.

These exquisite little villages are known for their local white wine crop and their wonderful seafood. Fried fresh anchovies are nothing like the salty tins that Americans know. We tried the calamari salad, pasta with seafood, pizza, scampi, and eVery morsel was delicious. We found the people friendly and helpful, and eVery day we stayed there made us pine to be there longer.

I even got pretty good about going up and down 121 steps two and three times a day!!

Back at Manuel's, we often sat out on the patio and chatted with other guests. We met some lovely people. Greg and Jason, students from No. Carolina in particular.
They enjoyed the food as much as we did, so we did a lot of restaurant critiques together.
