Trip to Charleston May 2009

Carol Peters invited me to read for the poetry series she manages at the Charleston Library (which was fun and I met her lovely poetry community) and then we did some sightseeing for the four days I stayed with her.

Angel Oak is a 1500 year old behemoth which is a must see. Carol lives on James Island where their park system is incredible. We also saw the Caa Caa Interpretive Center, about 600 plus acres of former rice fields (worked by slaves ) which are now converted to a wildlife sanctuary with alligators, birds, turtles, and much more.

We had a great time. Here is my photo album.

Oh, wow. Wonderful!! And how nice to see Carol, too. :)

These pics are gorgeous. Except for the gaters who are so ominous and primitive, and apparently invading golf courses everywhere they are able.

The cemetery scene is wrenching, although it certainly is more so for you. The cello in the background draws me in, as well. How thoughtful of them to send it to you.

Scary alligator moment there -- at least for me -- and I wasn't even there! :) But what a beautiful place.

beautiful! I love Carol's backyard! and I love gators, too. not scary to me (tho perhaps it should be) more thrilling!

love the haunted tree, too!
